Tags – cost center accounting and transaction classification
Last updated 17 days ago
Tags are a tool for classifying bookkeeping transactions. They let you track expenses and income however you like, alongside the chart of accounts — for example by project, department, or cost center.
Tags are especially useful for companies with several operations, projects, or business areas whose profitability they want to track separately.
Setting up tags
Tags are activated under Settings → Bookkeeping settings and automation → Tags. Once the feature is activated, you can create your first tag by giving it a name and, if you want, a description.
You can create as many tags as you need. Good examples of tags include:
Project A, Project B
Store Helsinki, Store Tampere
Marketing, Product development
Adding a tag to a transaction
Once tags are enabled, you can attach them to individual transactions when creating or editing a transaction. You can add more than one tag to a single transaction if needed.
Reporting with tags
The real benefit of tags shows up in reporting. In reports, you can filter transactions by tag, letting you print out, for example, just the expenses and income related to Project A for the period you want.
This makes cost-center-specific reporting possible without having to expand the chart of accounts separately for every tracking target.
Adding a tag to a sales invoice
Once tags are enabled, you can attach them to individual sales invoices when creating them. You can add more than one tag to a single transaction if needed. You can filter sales invoices by tag from the invoice list.
